Rare & prestigious pedigreed livebearer!
Limia tridens "Las Salinas, Dominican Republic" (1998, by Dominic Isla)
This is a very rare and fully pedigreed wild type livebearer. As a poeceilid livebearer, their behavior is similar to other fish in this family such as guppies or swordtails.
This particular species is beautifully colored. As any livebearer, males color and develop best when kept in groups. An ideal male of this species has a sparkly blue body and yellow tail. They are not as bright as bred-down show guppies, but they are much more interesting! These are real pedigreed collector's fish, as the wild types are much more collectible and prestigious than fancy strains. This particular species came to me directly from the chairman of the American Livebearer's Association.
This species is quite versatile and easy to care for. It eats flakes and will thrive in almost any aquarium. It is very active and won't ever hide! One thing I will warn you about though is that this species does not like brand new uncycled aquariums or heavily chlorinated water. Other than that they are easy.
Limias are similar to guppies or other small livebearers. They will breed readily in any community aquarium. These are not terrible fry eaters, but an exceptionally small brood may get munched. Places to hide will save the fry.
